Christmas Gift: Spin Script for MagicaVoxel
Updated: Dec 27, 2018
As much as I love MagicaVoxel, and as beautiful as the renders can be, the thing I miss the most is the ability to automate simple video renders, especially a spin loop for showing off the 3D nature of the art form.
Tools like Blender and Sketchfab are great, but the built in material settings for MagicaVoxel are so good, and it's frustrating to learn other complicated programs. This #script I wrote does not necessarily make things less complicated, but it does automate the process so you can step away for a few hours while it works!
This requires the free program AutoHotkey and is only for Windows at this point. (sorry!) I do plan on turning this into an easy to use executable, and I will look into making this for OSX, but I don’t know if that will be possible.
After running the script, I load the frames into Photoshop for exporting as a video or GIF, but you can use other programs you if you prefer. (I'll update with the tutorial I like when I can find it...)
Download spin_render.ahk and run it after installing AutoHotkey. Please take time to open the file in notepad, notepad++, or your favorite script editor to read my notes and customize it to your needs.
Let me know if you have any questions in the comments and I'll be happy to help!
